Being the Salt of the Earth

Matthew 5:13-16 says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

God says we are the Salt of the Earth. What does it mean to be a salt? How can be a salt?

கர்த்தரை நாம் எப்படி தேடவேண்டும்?

நாம் வேதத்தில் சாலமோன் எழுதிய உன்னதப்பாடல்கள் வாசித்திருப்போம். மேலோட்டமாக அதை வாசித்தால், ஒரு பெண் தன் மணவாளனை தேடுவதும், பின் மணவாளன் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்துவதும், அதன்பின் அவர்கள் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்வதும் மட்டுமே நமக்கு தெரியும். அவர்களிடையே நடைபெறும் உரையாடல்களை பாடல் வருணனையுடன் இப்புத்தகம் அமைந்திருக்கிறது.

இந்த புத்தகத்தை நாம் ஆழ்ந்து வாசித்தால், அதிலே எப்படி சூலமத்தி என்கிற ஒரு பெண் தன் மணவாளனை தேடுகிறாளோ, அது போல நாம் கர்த்தரை தேட வேண்டும் என்கிற ஒரு அருமையான சத்தியத்தை தேவன் அதிலே பதித்து வைத்துள்ளார்.

How to overcome this world

Jesus says, “I have overcome this world” (John 16:33)

How did he overcome this world? What did he overcome? When did he overcome? We might have this question when we pass this verse in Bible.

John clearly says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)

We can perceive from the above verse that world is full of

1. Lust of the flesh
2. Lust of the eyes
3. Pride of life

These were not created by our Father, but it came from the world. All these are just temporary ones that arouses out of our mind in seconds, causes us to do some action which we are not ought to and ultimately ends us with breaking our relationship with God. In other way, we can notice that these temporary actions are just like a passing wind that gives us a mere temporary pleasure. No one gets satisfied doing actions that falls under these category. It creates longings in our spirit.

Remember? When God created the man, He commanded him, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:16-17)

But, “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.” (Genesis 3:6)

Eve’s heart was occupied with,

1. Lust of the flesh – the fruit of the tree was good for food
2. Lust of the eyes – pleasing to the eyes
3. Pride of life – desirable for gaining wisdom

It should have just took few minutes to think and eat the fruit. But the entire mankind lost the relationship with God, received the Curses from Him instead.

It is common for a man to have trouble in heart or temptation. It is how he reacts to them. Is he trying to come out of it? or, is he trying to play around it?

 Even, Jesus met the same situation when he was completely worn out (40 days of fasting), the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

1. Lust of the flesh – command this stone to become the bread
2. Lust of the eyes – Kingdom of this world that you see will be yours
3. Pride of life – Son of God, throw yourself down, Angels will guard you

We can see, in every attempt,  Jesus overcome each lust and pride with Verses that God promised us. Yes! That is how Jesus overcame these worldly lusts. He does the will of God.

We, children of God, should always make ourselves aware of this worldly behaviors and keep ourselves out of it. Just like Jesus won these, with his Blood, we can win any tribulation, any troubles, any temptation that the worldly devil brings us! For it is written, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

இயேசு – ஜீவவிருட்சத்திற்கு போகும் வழி

புசிக்கவேண்டாம் என்று சொன்ன விருட்சத்தின் கனியை புசித்ததால் (ஆதியாகமம் 2:17), ஆதாமையும் ஏவாளையும் தேவன் சபித்து ஏதேன் தோட்டத்திலிருந்து துரத்திவிட்டார் (ஆதியாகமம் 3:23). மேலும், ஜீவவிருட்சத்தின் கனியையும் பறித்து, புசித்து, என்றைக்கும் உயிரோடிராதபடிக்குச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று, ஜீவவிருட்சத்துக்குப் போகும் வழியைக் காவல்செய்ய கேருபீன்களையும், வீசிக்கொண்டிருக்கிற சுடரொளி பட்டயத்தையும் வைத்தார் (ஆதியாகமம் 3:24).

Three different time still the same

That night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Luke 17:34-36

Jesus explains his disciples as to how things would happen on the day Son of Man is revealed. He explains three situations:

1. First, bed situation – night time.
2. Second, grinding situation – might be evening time.
3. Third, field situation – could be morning time.

மூன்று வேளை ஆயினும் அது ஒரே நேரம்

அந்த இராத்திரியில் ஒரே படுக்கையில் படுத்திருக்கிற இரண்டுபேரில் ஒருவன் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படுவான், மற்றவன் கைவிடப்படுவான். திரிகை திரிக்கிற இரண்டு ஸ்திரீகளில் ஒருத்தி ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படுவாள், மற்றவள் கைவிடப்படுவாள். வயலிலிருக்கிற இரண்டுபேரில் ஒருவன் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படுவான், மற்றவன் கைவிடப்படுவான் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

லூக்கா 17:34-36

மனுஷகுமாரன் வெளிப்படும் நாளில் நடக்கவிருக்கும் காரியங்களை இயேசு தன் சீஷர்களிடத்தில் கூறுகின்ற பொழுது, இப்படி மூன்று காரியங்களை குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

கர்த்தர் நம் மேய்ப்பர்

தாவீது தன் ஆடுகளை மேய்ப்பவனாக இருக்கையில், தேவனை தன் மேய்ப்பராக உருவகப்படுத்துகிறார். ஒரு மேய்ப்பனாக, தன் ஆடுகளுக்கு என்ன என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தான். அப்படியே, தனக்கும் தேவன் செய்கிறதை நினைத்துப்பார்க்கிறான். இதுதான் சங்கீதம் 23.

Goodness

…You yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge…
Romans 15:14

Goodness is another fruit that God expects us from. The world that we live is filled with evil and deceit. It is not necessary to teach bad character to babies; it comes to them itself. But the good character which God expects has to be taught seriously.

III John 1:11 says, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God”. We, whom created by God in his own image, expects goodness from us. He loves if we follow it. The world that we live though has badness in it, we should be cautious that its dirt never falls on us.

Also, I John 4:13 says, “We know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit”. He gives us his spirit to live in him. Paul says, “You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ”.

God gives us the Spirit of Christ. You may wonder what Spirit of Christ actually is. Jesus when he was living among us, he was going around doing good (Acts 10:38) as testified by apostle. He did no evil to anyone; expressed goodness and taught goodness. The one who created us when has the spirit of Goodness, we, who hold his spirit should also exhibit the quality of goodness. Jesus says, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you” in Luke 6:27.

Do you crave that you can’t live with good character in this world? Ask God, he creates situation for that. He gives us what we long for. Psalmist cries out to God, “You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.” in Psalm 119:68. Let’s plea to God in the same way and reveal the goodness which God expects.

நற்குணம்

நீங்கள் நற்குணத்தினால் நிறைந்தவர்களும், சகல அறிவினாலும் நிரப்பப்பட்டவர்களும்…
ரோமர் 15:14

நம்மிடம் தேவன் எதிர்பார்க்கும் மேலுமொரு கனி நற்குணம் ஆகும். நாம் வாழும் இந்த உலகம் தீமையினாலும், வஞ்சகங்களினாலும் சூழப்பட்டது. பிறக்கின்ற ஒவ்வொரு குழந்தைக்கும் தீமையை கற்றுக்கொடுக்க தேவையே இல்லை, அது தானாக வந்து விடுகிறது. ஆனால் தேவன் நம்மிடம் எதிர்பார்க்கும் நல்ல குணமோ அதிகமாக சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது.

தேவனிடத்திலிருந்து வரும் ஆசீர்வாதங்கள்

சங்கீதம் 115:13ல் நாம் இப்படியாக வாசிக்கிறோம்:

கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுகிற பெரியோரையும் சிறியோரையும் ஆசீர்வதிப்பார்

கர்த்தருக்கு பயப்படுதல் என்றால், அவருடைய கட்டளைகளுக்கு கீழ்படிந்து, அவருடைய கற்பனைகளின் படி நடப்பதே ஆகும். தேவனுக்கு பயப்படும் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் தேவன் ஆசீர்வதிப்பார் என்பதாக இந்த வசனம் கூறுகிறது. எப்படிப்பட்ட ஆசீர்வாதத்தை தேவன் நமக்கு தருகிறார்?

Receiving God’s grace and mercy

I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.
Exodus 33:19

Once we read this verse, we would doubt if God shows partiality or favoritism. But when we read Acts 10:34, Peter says, “God shows no partiality“. It appears contradictory when read superficially. That’s why God wants us to explore such verses; if asked, he reveals.

தேவனுடைய இரக்கத்தையும் கிருபையையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுதல்

எவன்மேல் கிருபையாயிருக்கச் சித்தமாயிருப்பேனோ, அவன்மேல் கிருபையாயிருப்பேன்; எவன்மேல் இரக்கமாயிருக்கச் சித்தமாயிருப்பேனோ, அவன்மேல் இரக்கமாயிருப்பேன்
யாத்திராகமம் 33:19

இந்த வசனத்தை வாசித்ததும் நமக்கு தேவன் பட்சபாதமுள்ளவரோ என்று தோன்றும். ஆம், அப்படி தானே தேவன் சொல்கிறார், “எனக்கு விருப்பமாயிருப்பவனிடம் இரக்கமாகவும், தயவாகவும் இருப்பேன்” என்பதாக! ஆனால் அப்போஸ்தலர் நடபடிகளில் (10:34) வாசிக்கும்போது, பேதுரு சொல்கிறார், “தேவன் பட்சபாதமுள்ளவரல்ல” என்று.

Kindness

The desire of a man is his kindness
Proverbs 19:22

God expects us to do good to others. When Jesus was living with us, he was doing good for everyone. He not even did good to those who loved him but he rendered healing to a servant of the high priest who came to arrest him when he was struck on his right ear that was cut down. Likewise, we are expected to do good to others; God calls this as kindness.

நன்மைசெய்ய மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசையே தயை
நீதிமொழிகள் 19:22

மற்றவர்களுக்கு நன்மை செய்யவேண்டும் என்பது தேவன் நம்மிடம் எதிர்பார்க்கும் கனி. இயேசு இந்த உலகத்தில் மனிதனாக மனிதனோடு வாழ்ந்தபோது அவர் நன்மை செய்பவராகவே சுற்றித்திரிந்தார் என்பதாக வேதத்தில் வாசிக்கிறோம். அவர் தம்மை நேசித்தவர்களுக்கு மாத்திரமல்ல, கடைசி நிமிடத்தில் தன்னை பிடிக்கவந்த போர்சேவகனுடைய காதை பேதுரு வெட்டினபோதும், அந்த போர்சேவகனுக்கு அற்புத சுகத்தை தந்தார்; இழந்த காதை திரும்பவும் இணைத்தார். அதுபோலவே, நாமும் மற்றவர்களுக்கு மனதார நன்மை செய்யவேண்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்; அதனையே தயை என்கிறார்.

Patience

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient…
Ephesians 4:2

Patience is the fourth fruit of spirit. To be serene, peace, happy and being lovable to others, we should first learn to be in patient. God expect this from us, importantly forbearance.
